What Age Do Players Need to Be?

Players need to be 14 or older to join our BLOOM Netball leagues. Whether you’re new to the game or an experienced player, there’s a place for you to join the fun!

Is There an Age Limit?

There’s no upper age limit! As long as you’re 14 or older, you can join in the fun. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, our leagues are open to everyone who’s ready to play and enjoy netball!

How Much Is It to Play?

The cost to play can vary depending on your league or session, but we aim to keep things affordable and accessible for everyone. For the exact pricing, please check the specific league details or get in touch with us directly so we can give you all the details.

Is Cash Payment Accepted?

Not for match fees! We like to keep things simple with online payments for those. However, our awesome umpires are paid in cash on the night of your game

How Do I Get Involved If I Missed the Couch2Court Session?

No worries! If you missed the Couch2Court session, you can still join the fun! Just reach out to your coordinator, and they’ll help find a team to join. Whether you’re new or getting back into netball, there’s always room to jump in!
Plus, our umpires are fantastic at offering advice and tips to get you up to speed quickly. Ready to join? Let’s get you playing!

Can I Join with a Friend and Be Put in the Same Team?

Absolutely! You and your friend can definitely join together, and we’ll do our best to place you on the same team. Just let us know when you register, and we’ll make it happen!

What is Couch2Court®?

  • Couch2Court® is our fun, beginner-friendly program designed to help players of all abilities build confidence and skills before joining the league.

How do we join Couch2Court?

What happens after the season finishes? You’ll be invited to re-register and play again. Let’s do it all over again – more netball, more fun, more memories!

Basic Netball Rules

What are the key netball rules we need to know?

  • No stepping: Keep your landing foot grounded when you have the ball.
  • 3-second rule: Pass or shoot within 3 seconds of receiving the ball.
  • No contact: Avoid physical contact that interferes with an opponent’s play.
  • Stay in your area: Players must stick to the zones allowed for their position.
  • Obstruction: Defenders must stay 3 feet away from the ball carrier.

Are There Any Modifications to the Rules for Social Games?

No, we follow World Netball rules for all games. However, our umpires are always happy to provide guidance and advice. If you need support or clarification on any rules, just let them know – they’re there to help!

How do we decide who plays which position?

Here’s a simple rundown of Netball positions and their main jobs on court—plus a fun description of who that person might be so you can spot them in your team!

1. Goal Shooter (GS) 🎯

Job:

  • Focuses on scoring goals.
  • Stays in the shooting circle to receive passes and take shots.
  • Needs accuracy and good positioning to get the ball in the net.

Who They Are:
The Sharp Shooter of the team! Always calm under pressure, this person loves the spotlight and is all about scoring those crucial goals. Think of them as your team’s “goal machine.” 🔥

2. Goal Attack (GA) 🔄

Job:

  • Helps the GS score by feeding them passes in the shooting circle.
  • Can move around the attacking half of the court to create space and support the shooter.
  • Also helps with ball movement to get it into the shooting area.

Who They Are:
The Creative Playmaker! They’re quick, crafty, and always thinking one step ahead. They can see openings where others don’t and love assisting teammates to make things happen. 🎨

3. Wing Attack (WA) 🏃‍♀️

Job:

  • Links the attack and midfield by passing the ball through the court.
  • Focuses on getting the ball into the shooting circle.
  • Must move quickly to create space for passes.

Who They Are:
The Speedster! Always on the move, this person loves to sprint, dodge, and weave through defenders. They’re the one creating the opportunities and passing magic to move the ball forward. ⚡

4. Centre (C) 🔄

Job:

  • The all-rounder!
  • Works both in the attacking and defensive thirds, covering the whole court.
  • Moves the ball from defense to attack and vice versa.
  • Key in creating flow and linking teammates.

Who They Are:
The Energizer Bunny! This person is everywhere – leading the charge in attack and rushing back to defend. They have endless energy, a great attitude, and keep the team buzzing. 🔋

5. Wing Defence (WD) 🛡️

Job:

  • Stays in the defensive half and tries to stop the WA from feeding the ball into the circle.
  • Works hard to intercept passes and block the opponent.
  • Needs speed and agility to keep up with the opposition’s attack.

Who They Are:
The Defensive Dynamo! They’re quick, tough, and always on the hunt for that interception. If there’s a ball to be stolen, they’ll be there to snatch it away. ⚔️

6. Goal Defence (GD) 🚧

Job:

  • Protects the shooting circle and tries to stop the GA from scoring.
  • Works with the GK to prevent the ball from getting into the shooting area.
  • Needs good timing and positioning to intercept or deflect passes.

Who They Are:
The Wall! This person is a brick wall in defense, tough and unshakeable. They’re always ready to block, intercept, or challenge the attackers, making sure they don’t get an easy shot. 🏰

7. Goal Keeper (GK) 🛡️

Job:

  • Protects the goalposts and tries to stop the GS from scoring.
  • Works closely with the GD to block and intercept passes in the shooting circle.
  • Must be tall, patient, and quick to react to shots or passes.

Who They Are:
The Goal-Stopper! They’re the team’s last line of defense, calm under pressure and always ready to dive for that crucial interception or save. They’ve got the height, the focus, and the reflexes to keep the goals out. 💪
